SENSOR LIBS is a sensor-based 3-way sorter utilising laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for the elementspecific analysis and sorting of aluminium alloys. A high-energy laser pulse strikes the particle and generates a plasma, the
emitted light from which contains characteristic, element-specific wavelengths. This is analysed within milliseconds using a high-resolution spectrometer, enabling the chemical composition of each individual particle to be precisely determined.
On this basis, SENSOR LIBS enables the reliable separation of different aluminium alloys – for example, wrought and cast aluminium or various alloy groups. The subsequent sorting takes place into three product streams via targeted compressed
air pulses and a collection pocket, enabling even heavy particles such as cast aluminium components to be efficiently ejected.
